Meet Sterling

I am Sterling Jefferson Engle, a twice-exceptional, first-generation son of a Taiwanese immigrant and a lifelong resident of District 5 born on the 4th of July. My roots in Fremont run deep, having attended our local public schools and universities from Weibel Elementary, Hopkins Middle School, and MSJHS through UC Berkeley, where I majored in Asian Studies: China Focus and later earned an MS in Computer Science from UCLA in 2022. In 2019, I interned for our D-CA 17th District Congressman Ro Khanna.

I’m passionate about enhancing the quality of life in Fremont. I am eager to work alongside our next Mayor and City Council to address the issues that matter most to our community. My background in entrepreneurship and engineering equips me with a unique perspective and a proactive approach to solving problems.

My Priorities:

• Public Safety: I will collaborate with first responders and community organizations to ensure our neighborhoods are safer for everyone.
• Homelessness: I will work to ensure the City implements Fremont’s first Homelessness Response Plan, adopted in May, that prioritizes resources to prevent homelessness, increases housing solutions, and improves health and safety conditions.
• Sustainable Growth: I am committed to promoting responsible development that respects our environment, provides affordable housing, and boosts local businesses.
• Infrastructure Improvement: I will advocate for investments in roads, public transit, and essential services to improve daily life, support green economic growth, and attract more high-paying jobs.
• Community Engagement: I believe in open, transparent communication and will encourage active participation in local government, ensuring that every voice is heard and respected.

I refuse to accept contributions from developers so I can focus solely on representing your interests, not special interests. Together, we have the collective power to ensure Fremont’s sustainable and more prosperous future. I am committed to being a dedicated and effective advocate for our District. Let’s build a more vibrant and thriving community together!
